Transition to Parenthood

Pregnancy and Birth

Becoming a parent can bring enormous change to your identity, relationships, routines and sense of yourself. Therapy can provide space to make sense of this transition, adjust to new roles and expectations, and find your footing as a parent.

Pregnancy and birth can bring a complicated mix of emotions, and the experience doesn’t always unfold as hoped or expected. Support may include anxiety during pregnancy, preparing psychologically for birth and parenthood, difficult or traumatic birth experiences, and adjustment following birth.

Understanding Your Newborn

Looking After Yourself as a Parent

Newborns communicate long before they have words. Drawing on training in Newborn Behavioral Observations (NBO) and infant mental health, we can explore your baby’s individual cues, capacities and ways of communicating, helping you get to know the little person in front of you and build confidence in responding to their needs.

Caring for someone else can make it surprisingly easy to disappear from your own identity. Therapy can support you with anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, stress, guilt, perfectionism and the emotional load of parenting, while making room for your own needs, relationships and wellbeing.
